* Japan - Carmakers suspend domestic operations
Tokyo,Japan -Blue Dot Cafe (Nashville,TN,USA ) -14 March 2011: -- Japan’s four biggest carmakers have said they are suspending production at their domestic plants through to at least Wednesday to cope with the after-effects of Friday’s earthquake and tsunami. Honda, Japan’s second-largest carmaker, said on Monday that it was halting domestic production for a week and that damage to its suppliers’ plants might disrupt its UK production...
* India - Truck maker AMW to roll out 15 truck centres this year
Mumbai,INDIA -Yahoo News -8 March 2011: ... Asia Motor Works Ltd (AMW) which manufactures medium and heavy commercial vehicles for the haulage and specialised segments of mining, plans to roll out more than 15 truck centres at major trucking centres in the country this year... The company reports have also mentioned that the operations at the Truck Centre have been integrated with AMW's SAP system, bringing expertise and systems directly from the company's plant and headquarters. Progressively, all systems and upgradation and after-market innovations would be plotted in such Truck Centres before rollout in other areas/states. It was mentioned that at its Bhuj manufacturing complex, the company has an installed capacity of making 50,000 trucks, 12,000 fully-built tippers and dumpers and 4,000 trailers annually...
